Brandon Flowers restructures contract, Kansas City Chiefs get more salary cap space

Brandon Flowers restructured his contract. Converted $4M of $7.35M base to a signing bous, clearing $3M in cap space for the Chiefs

See the details of Flowers' contract restructure here. Flowers is still getting his money. This isn't a pay cut or a pay raise. Just a restructure in how it's reflected in the salary cap. He signed a six-year, $50 million deal in September 2011.

What this move has done is create more salary cap space for the KC Chiefs. Yesterday the Chiefs had approximately $1.3 million in cap space. After this restructure, they have $4.9 million in cap space. Spotrac reports that the Flowers' restructure combined with the Edgar Jones trade and the weekend roster moves all contributed to the Chiefs $4.9 million in cap space.

This move does not necessarily mean the Chiefs are getting ready to sign someone. It's good to have a little bit of a cushion in cap space entering the season. We'll see what they do, if anything.

With $14 million rolled over from last year, the Chiefs team cap is over $132 million, which is the highest in the league.

Who else could restructure? Tamba Hali would seem to be a candidate given his high 2013 salary -- $12.25 million.
