Sit/start fantasy football advice: Jamaal Charles is always a start, but sit Dwayne Bowe

The start of the 2013 NFL season also means the start of fantasy football. We're here with a little bit of sit/start advice for you. I am sitting some of the Chiefs key players in the passing game while starting the defense and Jamaal Charles (because you should always start Jamaal Charles).

Sit these players

Dwayne Bowe: For now, I say sit. I just want to feel more comfortable with how he is going to be used in the Chiefs offense. He very well could be the centerpiece of the passing game ... I just don't know that for sure just yet. I expect some disagreement here so I added a poll at the bottom.

Donnie Avery: Same deal. I want to see how the receivers are used in the passing game. There was a concern about that for a while early in the preseason but then Alex Smith found Bowe and Avery for 12 combined receptions in the third game. So there is promise. I just want to hold off for now.

Alex Smith: I was on the verge of putting him in the start category because I think he can throw a touchdown or two but with my questions around the receivers I figured I better put him under sit. This has as much to do with the uncertainty of the Chiefs offense as anything.

Start these players

Chiefs defense: With Blaine Gabbert banged up, and all the uncertainty around the Jaguars starting quarterback, I say start the Chiefs defense. The Chiefs defense was poor last year but those numbers were skewed because the offense put them in such horrible positions. Tamba Hali and Justin Houston can also pressure the passer.

Jamaal Charles: Start him every week. If you don't, you are probably going to lose your fantasy league.

Anthony Fasano: In a points per reception league he could be decent. I don't expect 100-plus yards out of him but I do expect him to be targeted often. He's a good red zone option as well.
