The AP power rankings put the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 19

The Associated Press power rankings have the Kansas City Chiefs in the middle of the pack at No. 19. Too high? Too low? Or just right?

Justin Edmonds

Everyone seems to be saying the Kansas City Chiefs are the second best team in the AFC West and the (other) AP's initial NFL power rankings support that. The Chiefs are No. 19 in the Associated Press power rankings, 17 spots behind the Denver Broncos, who are No. 2 overall.

I might be crazy for saying this on a Chiefs blog but ... does No. 19 seem a little high to you? I was getting used to the No. 22 or No. 23 rankings we've been seeing from some folks. In fact, most of the votes for the Chiefs came between 20-24. They went as low as No. 27 and as high as No. 13.

It's that No. 13. Three voters, including Herm Edwards, John Lynch and Bob Glauber, put the Chiefs at No. 13. Yep, on the cusp of a top 10 team, your 2-14 Chiefs. Isn't the NFL great?

I haven't seen any other team's training camp so I don't know how the Chiefs compare to others. I do have confidence in some areas of the team right now. There are, however, areas that still worry me.

Things that still concern me:

Receivers 2-6. The Chiefs receivers after Dwayne Bowe make me uncomfortable. I don't have a lot of faith that they will be able to consistently perform. Of course, I'd love to be wrong.

Pressure from the defense. The Chiefs are going to be blitzing from all over the place if you ask them. I want to see a true pressure defense, which is something the Chiefs have talked about in the past but haven't been able to pull off in some time.

Quarterback. It always will.

Things I'm less concerned with:

Offensive line. There will be some rough spots here and there but this is a good line. They're young and will hopefully get better as the season goes on.

The known quantities: Your Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe and Branden Albert.

That's a non-exhaustive list. You guys can tell I worry a lot, can't you?

The rest of the AFC West: 2.) Broncos 24.) Chargers 31.) Raiders
