Updates on Kansas City Chiefs news, rumors, schedule and more

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a lot of news surrounding them in the past couple of days. Let's recap it all in case you missed anything.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport
This week's schedule

Wednesday: Chiefs off day the day before the game.

Thursday: Chiefs play Packers at 7 p.m. (Arrowhead Time). We'll start to read into who did and didn't play.

Friday: Chiefs will probably begin their cuts on this day. At least some of them. They made most of their cuts a little early in the first round of moves so I wouldn't be surprised to see the cuts start coming in on Friday.

Saturday: 5 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) deadline to be down to 53 players. The previous Chiefs regime wouldn't release this 53-man roster until right at the deadline so it made the wait painful. I'm hoping the Chiefs will get them in earlier this time around.

Sunday: By 11 a.m. (Arrowhead Time) we'll know if the Chiefs claimed anyone on waivers cut the day before. Also at that time: Practice squads!

Tuesday: Players can be placed on IR with the designated to return label.

Tony Moeaki's injury

What you need to know:

  • It's a fractured shoulder
  • He's expected to miss 12 weeks
  • The Chiefs have not decided whether he will be put on IR
  • The Chiefs can place him on IR-designated to return on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Dexter McCluster drama

Danny Parkins reported he was unhappy with his role.

Dexter McCluster responded with this.

Jaguars claim Ricky Stanzi

The Chiefs Week 1 opponent.

Here's what I told Big Cat Country about Stanzi:

What did the Jaguars get in Ricky Stanzi? Your guess is as good as mine. Stanzi was never an option for the Chiefs for some reason. From Matt Cassel to Tyler Palko to Kyle Orton to Brady Quinn, the Chiefs went through quarterbacks and never played Stanzi. Granted, that's coming from two head coaches who have since been fired, but it's one of the amazing facts about Stanzi. You're no longer rootin' for the black and teal, Jacksonville. You're rootin' for the red, white and blue.

How long should the Chiefs starters play?

We don't know this yet. Andy Reid has been non-committal.

We are only a few hundred votes in but...

We also did a Q&A with Acme Packing Company about Thursday's Packers-Chiefs game.

Chiefs cut 15 players

Those players are:

WR Jamar Newsome, CB Vince Agnew, QB Ricky Stanzi, DE Miguel Chavis, WR Terrance  Copper, OL Ryan Durand, OL Hutch Eckerson, DB Otha Foster III, OL AJ Hawkins, DE Rob Lohr, CB Kamaal McIlwain, RB Jordan Roberts, WR Tyler Shoemaker, DB Neiko Thorpe and FB Braden Wilson.

The roster stands at 75 players right now.

By Saturday, August 31, at 5 p.m. (Arrowhead Time), the Chiefs will cut 22 more players to get down to the 53-man roster.

Blaine Gabbert on track to play start vs. Chiefs Week 1

Via Big Cat Country:

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been without starting quarterback since he broke his thumb on his throwing hand against the New York Jets in Week 2 of the preseason. Gabbert's missing the remainder of the preseason, but it appears he's on track to start Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

....

Even if Gabbert is ready for Week 1 against the Chiefs he knows he's going to have to be playing through pain and could struggle gripping the football.
