Chiefs' Donald Stephenson has finger surgery, likely to miss first preseason game

Donald Stephenson, the Kansas City Chiefs swing tackle, is expected to miss the Chiefs first preseason game against the New Orleans Saints next week.

USA TODAY Sports

Count Donald Stephenson out for the first preseason game. He was missing from KC Chiefs training camp this afternoon and head coach Andy Reid told us after practice that Stephenson actually had surgery recently.

"He had surgery on his left little finger this morning," Reid said on Thursday morning. "He will be out for a week or so, might be a little longer."

Reid said that as of right now it looks like he will miss the first preseason game, against the New Orleans Saints, on August 9, which is a week from Friday.

We did not know Stephenson was injured, only that he wasn't at practice earlier this morning. It's a minor injury, only a finger, so this isn't something that should linger.

Stephenson has been running at left tackle with the second team.
