Our old friend Alex Tanney.
The former Monmouth quarterback and the former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback spent some time in Valley Ranch this week. According to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com, Tanney was among three quarterbacks who worked out for the Cowboys on Tuesday.
The background on Tanney, as if you didn't already know: He hails from Monmouth where he was a record-setting D-III QB. He didn't get drafted. Most importantly, he made this terrific trick-shot video, which you can see below. It kinda went from there....
...the Chiefs signed him last June.
Back then, former Chiefs QB coach Jim Zorn said of Tanney: "He can throw the ball. What is surprising is that we haven't given him many reps, but he's got a real strong arm and he can throw harder than people think. Most people think it's just the little trick shot stuff that he can do. He's got good ball speed. He just hasn't had that many reps and hopefully we will be able to see him in preseason a bit."
The Chiefs never did see that in the preseason. Well, not really. Tanney made one appearance in one preseason game that August. The next day he was placed on IR with a hand injury, ending his season.
The Chiefs cut him earlier this year in May.
Interestingly, the Cowboys begin training camp early since they're playing in the Hall of Fame game, the first preseason game. They must be considering bringing in another quarterback for camp.
Tanney time?
