Kansas City Chiefs sign a former KU football player

The KC Chiefs have a new Jayhawk on the team.

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas City Jayhawks, err Chiefs, have a new player. Toben Opurum tweets he has signed.

He could be a running back, fullback, or linebacker, although he worked with the offense last week in rookie minicamp as a fullback, a crowded position for the Chiefs. [Update: The Chiefs have confirmed the move and listed him as a fullback.] Special teams, of course, will also be important.

He said here he had to finish his finals before he could sign with the Chiefs, which sounds like (yet another) dumb NCAA rule.

He becomes teammates with Bradley McDougald, another former KU player, once again.

This brings out tryout players signed list up to seven. The other six tryouts who signed are DL Risean Broussard, S Greg Castillo, DE Miguel Chavis, S Justin Glenn, RB Jordan Roberts and DB James Rogers.

The Chiefs also signed 13 undrafted free agents.
