NFL Draft results: Georgia CB Sanders Commings is the Chiefs 5th round pick

With the 134th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Georgia CB Sanders Commings. He joins Central Michigan's Eric Fisher (No. 1), Cincinnati TE Travis Kelce (No. 63), Arkansas RB Knile Davis (No. 96) and Alabama LB Nico Johnson (No. 99) as the KC Chiefs 2013 draft picks.

Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings is the newest Chief after KC selected him with their fifth round pick. Commings is a 6'0, 216-pound cornerback from the SEC. He was projected as a fourth round pick, according to NFL Draft Scout. The Chiefs went heavy on cornerbacks this offseason, signing Dunta Robinson and Sean Smith in free agency. Those two, however, are only on three-year deals. Commings could be depth for the future. He could also be here to play safety as that's considered a need for the Chiefs.

Commings ran a 4.34 40-yard dash at the 2013 NFL Combine and visited the Kansas City Chiefs before the draft.

SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn placed Commings on the NFL Draft's all underrated team, writing this: "Commings is a guy that is constantly around the football making plays and he is at his best when playing press coverage at the line of scrimmage. Overshadowed by come of the bigger names on Georgia's defense this season, Commings should have every chance to find as much, if not more, NFL success that his Bulldog teammates." Fairburn thought Commings could've gone in the third round.

The Chiefs had the top pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, using it on Central Michigan's Eric Fisher. They did not have a second round pick this year after giving it away in the trade for Alex Smith (it was the 34th overall pick). The Chiefs had two third round picks -- one regular one and one compensatory pick -- and used it on Cincinnati TE Travis Kelce and Arkansas RB Knile Davis. Alabama LB Knile Davis was the Chiefs fourth round picks.

GM John Dorsey will speak to the local media following end of the seventh round. Also after the seventh round is the start of the undrafted free agent signing period.
