2013 NFL Draft open thread: Day 3

The Chiefs have five picks to improve their team, unless of course they trade up or down. Let's watch the madness.

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have five picks to play with on Saturday afternoon, and have just taken inside linebacker Nico Johnson from the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Of course, the big news already is the Philadelphia Eagles trading up with the Jacksonville Jaguars to select USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley.

With Barkley, Nick Foles and Michael Vick now in the fold, new head coach Chip Kelly will have some decisions to make.

But enough about the Eagles, let's talk about the Chiefs selection. Since the beginning of the second day, Kansas City has been seen as a team that desperately needs help along Derrick Johnson on the inside of the linebacking corps.

Is Johnson the player who can step in as a fourth round pick and start immediately? Last season Johnson had 55 tackles including two for a loss. He was hurt by his combine time in the 40-yard dash, running a 4.75 time.
