The Kansas City Chiefs first round pick will probably be in New York on the first night of the 2013 NFL Draft. The NFL released a list of 23 players who will attend Radio City Music Hall, a list that includes Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel and Central Michigan's Eric Fisher.
Others attending the draft who could be of interest to the Chiefs include Florida's Sharrif Floyd, who worked out privately for KC, and Oregon's Dion Jordan, who also worked out for KC. Maybe even Missouri's Sheldon Richardson, whose draft stock seems all over the place. If Mike Mayock were the GM of the Chiefs, we would include Alabama's Chance Warmack on this list, too.
In case of a trade down, the Chiefs could still be covered with Oklahoma's Lane Johnson, BYU's Ezekiel Ansah, or even Alabama's Dee Milliner, among others.
Notable names not listed here include Utah's Star Lotulelei who may or may not be on the Chiefs possible list of players considering he was not on the 2013 World Workout Tour conducted by Andy Reid and John Dorsey.
Oh, and Geno Smith will be there, too.
Attending the actual draft is fairly overrated. I've gone a couple of times, including Eric Berry's year. The problem is that once you take the Mel Kipers and Mike Mayock out of your draft viewing experience, you realize how much you miss those guys. I don't know anything about prospects going in the 4-7 rounds so Mayock and Kiper become invaluable at that point. By being at the draft, you miss all that. And the internet connection is historically bad. But being there to see Jets fans boo? Now that might make the entire thing worth it.
