Geno Smith visits the Chiefs today; No, not an April Fool's Day joke

Geno Smith, arguably the top quarterback available in the 2013 NFL Draft, has a visit scheduled with the KC Chiefs on Monday and Tuesday of this week. However, it appears unlikely the Chiefs would seriously consider drafting him.

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs will get their close-up with West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith this week. Smith is scheduled to visit the KC Chiefs on both Monday and Tuesday of this week. The Chiefs can have 30 pre-draft visits with players coming to their facility, and Smith is one of those players. He's expected to be the first quarterback picked in the 2013 NFL Draft.

All signs point to the Chiefs NOT drafting Geno. After the Alex Smith trade, the chances of taking Geno were very, very low. And they still are. The Chiefs made a clear commitment to Alex Smith so don't expect them to now draft Geno Smith. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I did expect the Chiefs to bring Geno in for a visit, though. Any time you have the top pick, or one of the top picks, you visit with the best quarterbacks in that draft. The Chiefs did so last year with Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, and they'll do it this year with Geno Smith.

Risk Tolerance: Are the Chiefs risky?

As far as I can tell, Geno is the only first round quarterback scheduled to visit the Chiefs thus far. Matt Barkley is another player I thought they might bring in for a visit, or work out in Southern California. Of course, the Chiefs probably need that second round pick back to even contemplate taking someone like Barkley. The more likely scenario is that they draft a quarterback in the late rounds ... if they draft one at all.

If you see Geno around town, tell him hello. Then snap a picture and send it to us.
