Taking a look at Teicher's salary cap article the other day, I tried to crunch the updated numbers with all the recent activity over the last couple of days. Teicher said that the chiefs would sit at about $7,520,530 million in available cap factoring in alex smith's new contract, so thats where I'll start.
Starting Salary Cap $7,520,530
Branden Albert 2013 cap hit ($9,828,000)
Dwayne Bowe 2013 cap hit ($4,000,000)
Dustin Colquitt 2013 cap hit ($3,750,000) - worst case scenario, assuming contract is equally prorated over 5 yrs
Updated Salary Cap -$10,057,470 (negative)
Jackson restructure that was already accounted for $17,470,000(Prior hit) - $5,200,000(restructure hit)
Restructure savings +$12,270,000
Updated Salary cap =$2,212,530
If Cassel is cut +$5,875,000
Updated Salary cap =$8,087,530
With all the activity over the last couple of days, this is my best guess as to what we will have in available salary cap space going into free agency. I'd also say this number will be a bit higher as Colquitt's yearly contract specifics have not been released.
