One more big name to add to the potential No. 1 picks for the Kansas City Chiefs: Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd. We knew the Chiefs were in Florida working players out but we couldn't say for sure whether that included Floyd, who will be in the running for the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Now, thanks to ESPN, we know Floyd is one of the targets.
A collection of Chiefs officials, including GM John Dorsey, are on Florida campus today, privately working out Florida DT Shariff Floyd.

We highlighted Matt Elam, another Gator the Chiefs are working out, here. Elam is not a potential No. 1 overall pick but Sharrif Floyd is. We looked at Floyd as a possible No. 1 pick earlier this month and I said it would be a surprise. But given the way the Chiefs offseason has been shaping up lately ... it wouldn't be as much of a surprise as I initially thought.
In my mind the picks are coming down to the top offensive tackle or the top defensive lineman. One of the two. Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher are the obvious choices at offensive tackle. Things open up a little bit when you look at defensive tackle, though. Floyd is as good of a choice as any if defensive tackle is the choice. The Chiefs defensive line, for now, includes Tyson Jackson and Mike DeVito on the ends and Dontari Poe in the middle. Depth is needed along the line either way.
This is the best piece on Floyd that I've read. Make sure you read it.
So the potential top picks the Chiefs brass have scouted include Dion Jordan, Ezekiel Ansah, Luke Joeckel, Damontre Moore, Lane Johnson and now Sharrif Floyd. Coming this week will be Eric Fisher of Central Michigan. At least those are the ones we know of so far.
Our Chiefs draft interests table will be updated shortly to reflect these changes.
