Chase Daniel, Chiefs agree to 3-year contract, according to report

The Kansas City Chiefs were said to be interested in free agent quarterback Chase Daniel and, whaddya know, the Chiefs have reportedly signed the former Missouri quarterback. This could have big implications on whether the Chiefs choose a quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The interest was real. Chase Daniel has reportedly agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs just over an hour into the 2013 NFL free agency period. This according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

So about the Chiefs still drafting a quarterback this year ... hard to see that happening. Daniel had multiple teams after him -- an indication of how weak the free agent quarterback market is -- which means the Chiefs very well could've paid a premium price for a backup. We'll see what the numbers say but the first report of the Chiefs interest in Daniel, which surfaced on Tuesday morning, had him eyeing a $3 million-a-year contract.

[Update: Chase got P-A-I-D. See details here.]

The Chiefs have made the Alex Smith trade official, so he's in the fold. Then there's the future of Matt Cassel, who many expect to be cut at some point. Brady Quinn is now a free agent. And Ricky Stanzi remains on the Chiefs roster.

So, as of now, the Chiefs quarterbacks in 2013 are shaping up to be Alex Smith, Chase Daniel and Ricky Stanzi.
