The 2013 NFL free agency period is on its way with things kicking off, officially, later today. The Kansas City Chiefs have 15 unrestricted free agents we're tracking, including quarterback Brady Quinn, who doesn't appear to be a candidate to return to the Chiefs next season. The Jets were said to be interested in Quinn a few weeks ago but then they signed free agent David Garrard this week, making me wonder if Brady would be left without a home.
Maybe not. Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Jets "still might sign" Quinn to a deal, despite all the quarterbacks they have on the roster. Quinn is what he is -- a backup quarterback. Those who read this blog regularly know I'm a bigger Quinn fan than most. But his upside in the league at this point is as a No. 2. Things could be a lot worse. Holding a clipboard and getting paid NFL minimums isn't such a bad thing.
The Chiefs have three quarterbacks under contract right now -- Matt Cassel, Ricky Stanzi and Alex Tanney. Cassel is widely expected to be cut by the Chiefs. Then there's Alex Smith, who is expected to officially be traded to the Chiefs this week. (No, it's not yet official.)
Any time you're feeling down about the Chiefs, Google search "ny jets roster", click the link and sort by quarterbacks....
1. Mark Sanchez
2. Tim Tebow
3. Greg McElroy
4. David Garrard
5. Matt Simms
And remember ... someone ALWAYS has it worse than you!
