Alex Smith, Luke Joeckel On Kansas City Chiefs' Radar from NFL.com

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport confirms the Chiefs have shown more interest than any other team in dealing for a quarterback who can step in as an immediate starter while rebuilding the rest of the roster. Per Rapoport, the 49ers spent the week "trying to lay ground" for a Smith trade and will do the same next week.

The Chiefs' plan doesn't stop at Smith, however. They might draft a developmental quarterback on the second or third day, counting on Smith's reputation as a leader and willing mentor.

Reports: Trade That Will Take Alex Smith Out Of San Francisco Is 'All But Done' from Yahoo! Sports

According to multiple reports, the San Francisco 49ers have wrapped up a trade that will put quarterback Alex Smith in a new city. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported via Twitter that the 49ers have sewed up negotiations with a willing trade partner. The interested team is not yet known, though Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com says that from everything he's heard around the scouting combine this week, the Kansas City Chiefs have a deal for Smith that is "all but done."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported on the NFL Network that the Chiefs have the most interest, and that new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is very intrigued with Smith's mobility, but that a deal isn't yet consummated.

Dorsey Finds 'Once-In-A-Lifetime' Job With Chiefs from ESPN Wisconsin

Dorsey had turned down interview opportunities for GM jobs in the past - including with Indianapolis and Chicago - but the Chiefs offered something different. Not only did Dorsey see similarities to the tradition the Packers have, but his wife, Patricia, is from Kansas City and had been working remotely from De Pere for a law firm there.

"I think it's a combination of things," Dorsey explained. "The Chiefs are one of the crown jewels of the National Football League. They have as good a fan base as any there is in all of sports. The ownership is incredible; it gives you all the resources to work with there. And then the proximity of the Midwest. When you get that with the tradition that they have, it was one of those once-in-a-lifetime jobs that sometimes you just can't say no to. You have to do it. And you know what? I'm happy I did it."

GM John Dorsey Optimistic Tyson Jackson Can Be Productive from CBS Sports

Months after the Chiefs selected Jackson with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the former LSU defensive end agreed to terms on a five-year, $57 million contract, including approximately $30 million guaranteed. Jackson responded with two sacks in 44 games over his first three seasons.

One year after Kansas City restructured Jackson's rookie contract, first-year Chiefs general manager John Dorsey indicated that he has been in communication with Jackson's representatives on modifying his contract again. Jackson's cap hit in 2013, the final year of his contract, increases from $9.5 million in 2012 to $17.47 million next season.

"We're just talking through some things," Dorsey said at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

Chiefs Evaluate Quarterbacks At NFL Combine from KC Star

Geno Smith showed the ability to make all the necessary throws, though there should have been no doubt about that after his big senior season at West Virginia. Mike Glennon displayed the same live arm he had at North Carolina State.

Two of the other top prospects, Ryan Nassib of Syracuse and Tyler Wilson of Arkansas, were more inconsistent, hitting on some throws and missing on others.

Two other top quarterbacks who met with the Chiefs at the combine, USC's Matt Barkley and Miami of Ohio's Zac Dysert, did not throw because they are rehabbing from injuries. Barkley had a separated shoulder, Dysert a pulled hamstring.

"It's another step,'' Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "It's one more part of the process. You're looking for a lot of things. You're looking at the body language. You're looking at the fundamentals. You're looking at how he interacts with all these other great athletes around him.

Judgements: Milliner Out To Prove Doubters Wrond At Combine from CBS Sports

Florida safety Matt Elam is the brother of Abram Elam, safety for the Kansas City Chiefs, but it's safety Ed Reed -- not his brother -- Matt said he emulates. "I love to strike a player," he said. "That's what helps make me stand out the most."

Vegas Laying Down The Early NFL Odds from International Business Times

Sitting on the fence somewhat at this early stage is easy and so there are no less than six teams together at 50-1, this include the woeful Philadelphia Eagles, and the club their head coach left for, the Kansas City Chiefs. Could Andy Reid work wonders in the AFC and turn this sleeping club around?
