Back in the 2011 NFL Draft folks were projecting Justin Houston as a late first round pick. I remember mock drafts often had him going to the Atlanta Falcons, who picked at the end of the first round. But then Houston was popped for smoking weed, which makes the media think his stock goes tumbling.
We don't know how much that affected his stock but the Chiefs, who picked him up in the third (!) round, aren't complaining. Houston seems like the classic player with first round talent who gets bumped down to off-the-field issues.
This year's Justin Houston is another Georgia player-- linebacker Alec Ogletree. He is considered a first round talent but he was also popped for a DUI before the Combine, which could send his stock down a la Justin Houston.
The Chiefs, perhaps knowing the deal they got in Houston, met with Ogletree on Friday. He also met with the Philadelphia Eagles. Both the Chiefs and Eagles have a top five pick but Ogletree may not be selected that high. Think round two if the Chiefs are going to get involved.
While I would prefer the pre-draft transgressions to center on pot and not drinking and driving, Ogletree's situation seems to be setting up to be very similar to Houston. It doesn't hurt that they're coming from the same school.
Does Ogletree interest you if he starts falling?
