Kiper Insists Chiefs Should Trade Out Of No. 1 Pick from KC Star

"I think trading out is still the best option,'' Kiper said today. "There's no quarterback to remotely consider if you're Kansas City. I would say if (the Chiefs) can get out of there, that's the best option if they can, and there's no guarantee they will be able to.''

Kiper whittled his list to three of players he considers worthy of consideration by the Chiefs with that first pick: Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel, Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones and Utah defensive lineman Star Lotulelei.

Inside Free Agency: Day 4 from The Mothership

STRENGTHS:

Reggie Bush is versatile, to say the least. Breaking into the league with the New Orleans Saints, he was utilized as both a running back and return specialist. Since taking his talents to South Beach, he was fed the rock on a more-consistent basis and produced two quality seasons. Check out Reggie's [combined] rushing-receiving yards and TD totals throughout his career:

NFL Films Tribute To Storyteller from The Mothership

The night concluded with a standing ovation for the life of Steve Sabol and the moving and eloquent performance from the Philadelphia Orchestra.

As I was leaving, I was reminded of when the Chiefs production arm, 65 Toss Power Trap Productions had the honor of interviewing Steve, nearly 18 months ago. During that interview, his passion for the sport and film was as evident as it ever had been. The tally light for the camera was lit for only seconds, before Sabol took command of the questions and his love for the game and, not surprisingly, the Kansas City Chiefs franchise and its epicenter, Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City Chiefs 2013 Offseason Preview from Sports Illustrated

If Dorsey and Reid decide they can live with Cassel, then they might keep the No. 1 pick overall and address other needs in the draft. If they don't believe Cassel is the answer, they may have to pursue a veteran. The free-agent quarterbacks are a weak group once you get past Joe Flacco, who is almost certain to be back with the Ravens one way or another, but perhaps Kansas City could make a play for Alex Smith, who is unlikely to return to the 49ers.

The Broncos will be favored to repeat in what looks to be a week AFC West. It's going to take Dorsey and Reid a couple of years to make Kansas City contenders again, meaning Chiefs fans and owner Clark Hunt will have to be patient.

Offseason Forecast: Kansas City Chiefs from NFL.com

The Chiefs will draft at least one quarterback, but not with the No. 1 overall pick. They'll possibly bring another in to compete with Cassel and the rookie. There won't be a quick-fix under center. Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel might be the guy at No. 1, especially if Albert is allowed to walk. There are six 2012 Pro Bowlers on the roster, so there's talent in K.C. But you can't get out the blocks in today's NFL without a legit quarterback. That's the No. 1 job for Dorsey and Reid.

Chiefs Eyeing Other QBs Over Alex Smith? from ESPN

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said that the trade market for San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith may not be robust for several reasons.

As for the Kansas City Chiefs, Mortensen said they may have more interest in Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles and West Virginia draft prospect Geno Smith than in Alex Smith, a seven-year veteran.

John Dorsey Mum About Kansas City Chiefs' Plans At QB from NFL.com

Could the Chiefs be stuck with Matt Cassel -- for another season? (The Chiefs are 19-28 in four years with Cassel.)

"I think Matt Cassel has demonstrated the skill to play in the National Football League," Dorsey said.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Chiefs Fan Shows Pride In Permanent Manner from FS Kansas City

Austin Meek just laughs. And laughs. And laughs.

"Duuuude," Meek says, slowly. "Yeah, it was the most painful thing I've ever gone through, dude. I mean, it was wicked... it feels like knives just slowly (going) down your head."

So, yeah. Getting a giant Kansas City Chiefs tattoo along the back of your shaven skull?

It hurt. A lot.

Examining Chiefs' Draft Options At No.1 from Sports Illustrated

By this time last offseason, the NFL world more or less knew that the Indianapolis Colts would select Andrew Luck No. 1 overall at the draft. Fast-forward to February 2013 and the situation could not be more different.

The Kansas City Chiefs, owners of a 2-14 record in 2012 and a new head coach in Andy Reid, are on the clock. But there does not appear to be a Luck or Robert Griffin III in the current draft class, ready to step in and fill the Chiefs' void at quarterback. So, what's a rebuilding team to do?

Former Chiefs Player Speaks To 'Unsung Heroes' In Topeka from The Topeka Capital-Journal

Cherry compared his own situation when he was trying out for the Chiefs to those of the "unsung heroes" in the hospitality industry. In 1981, he was a free agent punter and had to deal with a series of ups and downs as chances to be signed appeared and disappeared, before another player's injury finally gave him a chance to play as a safety.

"I had to go out every day and prove myself," he said. "Most of you in this room are in a situation like that where you have to prove yourself every day."

Chiefs Can't Afford To Take Quarterback With First Pick Of Draft from CBS Sports

In fact, there's nobody even close, and if you think I'm kidding you weren't listening to what Frank Scelfo, Jacksonville's quarterbacks coach, said about Blaine Gabbert the other day -- namely, that if he were in this year's draft he'd be the No. 1 choice.

That should tell you something about the field. It should also tell you what the Chiefs' first move should be -- namely, anywhere but quarterback.

With the first choice you don't draft for need; you draft the best player out there. You go in one direction and one direction only, and that's for the sure thing.

Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey Mum On Quarterback Search from CBS Sports

Although seven quarterbacks have first- or second-round grades in CBSSports.com's latest projections, the 2013 class is generally regarded as a step below recent quarterback classes. If Brandon Weeden had entered the draft this spring, ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. believes the Browns quarterback may have been taken ahead of West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith or Southern California quarterback Matt Barkley.

Recent Events Expose Sexism In Sports Culture from ESPNW

And the repercussions are all around us at the moment, as women and men try to make sense of the recent hailstorm of "sports" stories that have nothing to do with what happens on the field: the Jovan Belcher murder-suicide tragedy in Kansas City; the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Steubenville, Ohio; the suspension of Tufts lacrosse players for sexist taunts.

Belcher murdered his girlfriend, killed himself and left their infant daughter orphaned -- yet the ensuing media coverage mainly focused on a young, hardworking football player gone too soon, a storyline apparently easier to tackle than a national epidemic of violence against women. Two high school football players in Ohio allegedly assaulted a young woman, then others reveled in it on social media -- yet little came of the incident, or the initial New York Times report of it, until an online vigilante group helped balance the scales of power and led the call for justice in Steubenville.

Alex Smith, Super Bowl QBs Headline USA Today Sports' 21st All-Joe Team from USA Today

Eric Winston (Chiefs): You have to feel for a guy who ended up in Kansas City because the Texans could no longer afford his salary and cut him loose. But Winston continued delivering an "A" game on the field and in the locker room, most notably when he vocally defended injured teammate Matt Cassel even if the rant later proved a bit misguided.

Poll Results: Veteran QB For Chiefs from ESPN

We asked readers to vote whether they think the Chiefs should pursue a veteran QB through free agency, a trade or gamble and take a quarterback with the top pick.

It wasn't even close.

Report: Titans Made Offer To Free Agent Chris Canty from NFL.com

That's a sign theTitans didn't blow him away with their offer, but Canty also might be waiting to hear from the Kansas City Chiefs, who he met with on Monday, per Mike Garafolo of USA Today.

Homeless Man Returns Engagement Ring Worth Thousands To Woman After She Accidentally Dropped It In His Change Cup from Gawker

It's also worth noting that, for Harris, finding lost rings and returning them to their rightful owners is practically a habit. According to Harris, several years ago a drunk and retired Oakland Raiders player was in town for a Chiefs' game. As one does when in Kansas City and a retired star athlete, the former player got drunk and jumped in a nearby creek (Brush Creek, in case you want to visit), where he lost his Super Bowl ring. Harris, of course, found the ring later that night on the sidewalk and returned it to the player, who rewarded him with a "generous reward" that included a three-night stay at fancy hotel downtown.
