"We're going to be selective in free agency," KC Chiefs GM John Dorsey said on NFL Network on Wednesday morning. "Right now my staff and I have begun to finalize our plans with regards to free agency. We should have a plan in place by the time the Combine rolls around here next week."
So that's the key date: the Combine, which kicks off a week from today. Free agency starts on March 12.
After that, it'll be the 2013 NFL Draft in April.
"We're in the final stages of our 15-day process of evaluating and building our college draft board," Dorsey said. "We're beginning to take those series of steps necessary to make those important decisions with regards to this first pick."

Dorsey talked a little bit about the Chiefs overall level of talent on the roster, and what needs to be done to improve.
"The roster does in fact at the top have some very good players," Dorsey continued. "I think we need to add some depth with regards to the overall roster structure.
"What I would like to do is be selective in free agency, and of course get the best possible draft picks we can get, but as a personnel guy you want to build that roster up from 53 to 43 and make that talented. You want to make training camp competitive and by the time you go into training camp you want to make sure you have the best competitive roster you can."
Since Dorsey was hired the Chiefs have been busy adding talent to the bottom of the roster. He has not, however, made decisions on some of the key free agents. Or, at least if he has, he isn't telling us that.
