As the Kansas City Chiefs piled up big play after big play in Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins, especially on special teams with two touchdowns, I kept wondering if the Chiefs players just had really, really good footing. I caught some highlights of LeSean McCoy's day in the snow in Philly, and wondered the same.
As it turns out, the Chiefs special weapon came from the equipment manager. Chiefs coach Andy Reid took a minute on Monday to recognize the job of Allen Wright, the Chiefs equipment manager.
According to Reid, Wright and his team changed out the studs on all the cleats before the game to give the Chiefs more traction on the snowy field at FedEx Field.
"I think that was a factor," Reid said. "We were able to function at a high level in bad weather conditions on a field, just from the weather, that was a bit soft and still maintain our speed and balance and moving abilities."

"Allen puts on the cleats and tests the turf," Reid said of Wright's preparation for the game. "He's not Jamaal but he gets out there and he moves around a little bit with the cleats on just to get a feel of the surface. Then he comes back, gets with the players and they ended up changing them out right before the game. I don't remember the exact time on the clock but they put the new ones on with a little bit of a longer cleat. I felt it was a factor."
