As many expected, the KC Chiefs elevated tight end Dominique Jones from the practice squad. To make room for him the team released receiver Chad Hall.
The reason behind this move is Anthony Fasano, who has been ruled out in this game due to a concussion. With Fasano out, the Chiefs needed another tight end in addition to Sean McGrath.
Enter Dominique Jones from the practice squad.
So Jones will take the field today while Chad Hall has been cut. I would not be surprised to the Chiefs bring Hall back sometime next week. The Jones' move seems like a temporary one just because of this Fasano injury.
Here are the bios on both Jones and Hall from the Chiefs:
Jones (6-3, 270) has played in 10 games (three starts) in two NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts (2012-13). He owns three receptions for 42 yards (14.0 avg.). Jones joined the Chiefs practice squad on Oct. 30, 2013. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Colts on April 30, 2012. Jones spent the majority of his time with Indianapolis on the club's practice squad roster and served a brief stint on Miami's practice squad in 2012 as well. He played collegiately at Shepherd University where he totaled 34 receptions for 403 yards and nine touchdowns his senior season. The San Diego, Calif., native prepped at Horizon Christian Academy.
Hall (5-8, 187) has played in 23 games (one start) in just over two NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Hall rejoined the Chiefs on Nov. 22 after originally coming to Kansas City on Sept. 1, 2013 via waiver claim from San Francisco. He played in eight games with Kansas City recording one catch for nine yards. Hall's career numbers include 15 receptions for 144 yards (9.6 avg.) with two touchdowns. He has returned 10 punts for 107 yards (10.7 avg.) and six kickoffs for 108 yards (18.0 avg.). He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Eagles in 2010. Hall played collegiately at the Air Force Academy and prepped at Wesleyan School in Norcross, Ga.
