NFL playoff scenarios: How the Chiefs, Broncos, Patriots and Colts can clinch a playoff spot

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of four AFC teams that can clinch a playoff spot this weekend. The KC Chiefs play the Washington Redskins in Week 14. If the Chiefs can win that game plus get some help with a Dolphins or Ravens loss, they can clinch a playoff spot. Here's the full breakdown for all the AFC teams...

Jamie Squire
How the Chiefs can clinch a playoff spot:

1) KC win + MIA loss or tie OR

2) KC win + BAL loss or tie OR

3) KC tie + MIA loss OR

4) KC tie + BAL loss

This means the Chiefs need help from a couple of old pals. The Chiefs need Matt Cassel's Vikings to beat the Ravens or Todd Haley's Steelers to beat the Dolphins. Ha.

How the Broncos can clinch a playoff spot:

1) DEN win or tie OR

2) MIA loss or tie OR

3) BAL loss or tie

The Broncos play the Titans in Denver, so they're probably going to win.

How the Patriots can clinch a playoff spot:

1) NE win + MIA loss or tie (AFC East) OR

2) NE tie + MIA loss (AFC East)

3) NE win + BAL loss or tie OR

4) NE tie + BAL loss

The Patriots can clinch the division title in early December. As usual.

How the Colts can clinch the AFC South:

1) IND win OR

2) TEN loss OR

3) IND tie + TEN tie

The Chiefs will play the Colts this season. It's possible both teams have clinched a playoff spot by then.
