The Kansas City Chiefs made a number of practice squad moves on Christmas Eve (which means we're late getting to it). Three players were signed to the practice squad, one player was released and two more Chiefs practice squad players have signed contracts with other teams.
FB Toben Opurum, who went to Kansas, signed with the Houston Texans active roster. TE Jake Byrne joined the Chargers 53-man roster. That's a big deal for those players, who have been on practice squads all year long, so congrats to them.
Here's a run down of this week's practice squad moves, via the Chiefs:
Added to Chiefs practice squad: RB Eric Kettani, WR Jerrell Jackson, LB / DE Ridge Wilson
Jackson (6-0, 192) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans on May 14, 2012. He was released by the Texans on before the start of the 2012 season and then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for a brief stint on their practice squad roster. On June 10, 2013, Jackson signed with the Chicago Bears, but was released during training camp. The Houston, Texas native played collegiately at the University of Missouri where he caught 113 passes for 1,434 yards (12.7 avg.) and six touchdowns. He prepped at Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, Texas.
Kettani (6-1, 233) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots on May 4, 2009. He left the NFL for military service during training camp in 2009 and returned to the Patriots on July 27, 2011. Kettani was on and off New England's practice squad roster for the 2011-12 seasons before joining the Washington Redskins practice squad roster on Sept. 11, 2012. He was released by the Redskins on Aug. 26, 2013. Kettani played collegiately at Navy, recording 2,091 yards on 395 carries (5.3 avg.) with 15 touchdowns. He prepped at Lake Catholic High School in Kirtland, Ohio.
Wilson (6-4, 256) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs on May 1, 2013. He was released by the team onAug. 31. Wilson played in 32 games at West Alabama, recording 78 tackles (35 solo), 3.5 sacks (-17.0 yards), two fumble recoveries, one interception and two passes defensed. The Louisville, Ky., native, prepped at Central High School in Louisville, Ky.
Released form Chiefs practice squad: WR Fred Williams
Williams (6-0, 190) joined the Chiefs after a two-year stint in arena football with the San Jose Sabercats (2012-13). In the AFL, he totaled 137 receptions for 1,698 yards (12.4 avg.) and 32 touchdowns. He also served as one of the club's kick returners, adding 63 returns for 1,193 yards and three touchdowns. Williams was a first-team All-America selection at St. Cloud State University. He finished his career with the Huskies as the program's career-record holder in receptions (264) and receiving yards (3,804). Williams prepped at Milwaukee South Division High School in Milwaukee, Wis.
