Bye Week Comes As A Blessing For Chiefs' Colquitt, Whose Wife Is Expecting Fifth Child from KC Star
Colquitt's successes on the field haven't come easy though. He punts three days a week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and refuses to quit until he's pleased with his performance.
"If I'm struggling in practice I punt until I get it right because I know that it is crucial in the game," Colquitt said. "If you can lock down offenses like we've been doing by our gunner play and our interior protecting and getting down and blocking we really limit what they do from an offensive standpoint."
Must See Moments From The Chiefs Offense from The Mothership
What started as a vision in January by Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, who credits the entire organization, including team president Mark Donovan, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey, has led to an unbelievable 9-0 start in 2013. Below are nine must-see moments from the Chiefs offense, followed on Friday by some of the top defensive plays, so far this season.
Chiefs-Bills Rewatch: Trends, Eric Fisher, Alex Smith, Missed Tackles And More from KC Star
Terez pointed this out, but Buffalo didn't show Dwayne Bowe a lot of respect in the first half. Lots of single coverage, no safety help. He caught six balls (though he dropped a big one) before halftime, and Buffalo adjusted to give him more attention. I do wonder if this is the start of defenses playing Bowe a bit differently, though, and putting even more attention on Charles.
Either way, it's good to see Bowe make a defense pay for playing him like that, and good to see Smith take advantage. One thing about that guy, if you're open, he's going to get the ball to you.
Chiefs Are Big News In Chine Too from KC Star
Kathy Nelson, president of the Kansas City Sports Commission, was returning from China, where she met with counterparts in organizing road races in both countries. On her Tuesday flight from Xi'an to Beijing, she picked up a copy of China Daily, the nation's English-language newspaper, and "was stunned to see the back cover."
First-Grade Flag-Football Team In Michigan Is Also Undefeated from KC Star
"I told them the adult Chiefs were 3-0, and they were sponsoring us, so if we keep winning they'll keep winning," LaFear said.
The kids took it to heart and ran through the rest of their schedule without a loss, although they tied the Raiders ("That was the coaches' fault," LaFear said). Then they'd watch the Chiefs each Sunday, pulling for their new favorite team.

New Coach, GM Bring New Outlook To KC As Chiefs Get [To] Enter Bye With Sterling 9-0 Record from The Associated Press via FOX News
Andy Reid is tired of all the clichéd questions about fresh starts. He insists that he wasn't burned out or in need of a break after 14 seasons leading the Philadelphia Eagles.
Then again, maybe it wasn't Reid who needed to start all over.
Maybe it was the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chiefs First-Half Grades: Offense from FS Kansas City
How does a 9-0 team get graded with anything but one "A" after another?
Well, for starters, our grading is based on expectations...
...We'll start with the offense and grade each segment, from quarterback to running backs to receivers to the offensive line to the coordinator.
OVERALL GRADE: C
Chiefs WR Chad Hall Aims High, Preservers from Chiefs Spin
Time stands still as he closes his eyes. He simultaneously raises his helmet, holds it to his heart and offers a silent prayer to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces...
..."It's a prayer to keep them safe, protecting them, let them not have fear," Hall said. "It's almost the same thing every time, spot on."
In many ways, the premise of Hall's prayer is what makes him unique from teammates.
Hall may wear the same uniform and played college football like the men surrounding him. But unlike a majority of current NFL players, Hall attended the U.S. Air Force Academy and served two years on active duty.
A Look At The Offensive Rookies from ESPN
The first pick in this year's draft, Fisher has started all but one game at right tackle. For much of the time, Fisher hasn't looked anything like the draft's best player. He has demonstrated superior athletic skills and those have allowed him to survive, but a pronounced lack of strength has left him vulnerable against powerful pass-rushers. The Chiefs are encouraged after Fisher played his best game of the season last week against Buffalo that perhaps his game is ready to soar. Whether or not it does during this season, Fisher remains a bright prospect. An offseason in the Chiefs' weight program should do him wonders and Fisher should come back in 2014 as a much better player.
A Look At The Defensive Rookies from ESPN
To this point, at least, Cooper has been the Chiefs' most valuable rookie. A seventh-round pick this season of the San Francisco 49ers, he joined Kansas City off waivers at the start of the regular season and quickly showed he had the skills to play the press coverage the Chiefs want from their cornerbacks. At 6-2, Cooper has the necessary size to match up with bigger, more physical receivers. A wide receiver in college, he has showed great instincts, ball awareness and he reacts well to the ball. Cooper has been the third cornerback, coming on the field in passing situations. He will at some point become an every-down player, perhaps as soon as next season.
Chiefs Fans Inked For Free At Kansas City Tattoo Shop from KCTV5
Grimm is a fifth-generation tattoo artist, and a Chiefs fan.
"So I decided to start tattooing Chiefs fans for free," he said.
But not just any Chiefs fan, just the first one that shows up every day when his shop opens at noon while the Chiefs are in first place.
"I would be happy if I did one of these everyday until the Super Bowl," Grimm said.
Jamaal Charles Is Chiefs' MVP from ESPN
While it might seem obvious that the Chiefs' MVP has to come from their big-play defense, the Chiefs have too many good players on that side of the ball than to completely collapse without any specific individual.
That same claim can't be made about their plodding offense, which is being propped up by the considerable skills of just one player. If it's painful for you to imagine the Chiefs without, say Johnson or Poe, what's it like to picture the Chiefs without running back Jamaal Charles?
Second-Half Storylines To Watch: Cam Newton's Rise, Kansas City's 16-0 Quest And More from Sports Illustrated
If the Chiefs do make it to 16-0, all those arguments about the difficulty of their schedule will be out the window. Over the season's final seven weeks, Kansas City plays Denver twice, San Diego twice, Indianapolis and has a back-to-back at Washington and Oakland. Only the Redskins and Raiders are below .500, while the Broncos are breathing down the Chiefs' necks for first in the AFC West.
Keeping the Broncos at bay ought to be goal No. 1 for Kansas City. With the spectacular home-field advantage the Chiefs enjoy, having the AFC playoffs roll through Arrowhead could be the difference between a really nice year and a trip to the Super Bowl.
Chiefs Dexter McCluster Sends Get-Well Message To Young Heart Patient from KCTV5
A very young heart patient just got a special get-well from the Chiefs' own Dexter McCluster.
KyLeigh Walker, 6, is a big McCluster fan and underwent open heart surgery last week. He heard about her surgery and posted a get-well message on her dad's Facebook page.
Alex Smith, In The Right Place from MMQB
Mid-morning in the Chiefs' practice facility. An off-day in the NFL world for players, a Tuesday, but Alex Smith and his backup, Chase Daniel, will be here until about 4 in the afternoon. There are four full Buffalo game tapes to study. This is a quarterback's life. Smith has been blessed to be with two good coaches on two good defensive teams in recent seasons, but San Francisco and Kansas City have been fortunate too: Smith doesn't make the dumb mistake, the big mistake. And though he's not the explosive passer a Matthew Stafford is, he wins. Quantify that any way you want. But no quarterback in pro football has won at Alex Smith's rate over the past three seasons. His teams are 27-4-1 in his last 32 regular-season starts. Smith, sitting with me in the office of Chiefs PR czar Ted Crews last week, dishes on his new life and his old one.
Faith Restored As Community Rallies Around Ailing Colorado Springs Family from The Colorado Springs Gazette
Maybe you remember the story of Jonah Pfennigs. He's a 14-year-old freshman at Doherty High School who has been in the newspaper over the years for his battle with cancer. Those stories always made me smile because they reflected Jonah's remarkable courage and upbeat attitude. (And how could I not like a fellow Kansas City Chiefs fan in the heart of Broncos country? Talk about courage.)...
...The family immediately removed him from Doherty and got him to Children's Hospital Colorado in Denver. Surgery was scheduled that Sunday so chemotherapy could begin immediately. (As a true Chiefs fan, Jonah asked his surgery be scheduled around that day's broadcast of the Kansas City game against the Cleveland Browns.)
Halfway Through Season, NFL Has 18 Of The Most-Watched TV Programs Since Sept 5 from Forbes
Currently, NFL games account for the 18 most-watched programs on television since the NFL season kicked off on Sept. 5, as well as 19 of the top 20 (see the chart below). Through Week 9, NBC's Sunday Night Football accounts for the seven most-watched primetime shows this fall.
Prairie Village Husband Humbled By Support After Wife's Death from KCTV5
A Prairie Village husband says he is humbled by the outpouring of love and support his family is receiving after his wife was killed in a horrific crash last week.
Tiffany Mogenson, 30, was killed after a speeding driver tried to elude police and caused a wreck Friday at 75th Street and Roe Boulevard...
...was also a Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader and the director of the Missouri Mavericks' Spirit Squad.
Tommie Agee: A True Plainsman from The Corner News
After a successful career at Auburn, Agee entered the 1987 NFL draft and was selected in the 5th round by the Seattle Seahawks. Agee spent two years in Seattle, then signed with Kansas City Chiefs and played there one season.
Agee said, "Nothing against Kansas City or the fans, I just didn't enjoy my time there."
Agee became a plan B free agent after his season in Kansas City and was signed by Dallas. When Agee joined Dallas he knew this was a good place for him. Somewhere he could strive.
10 Days To Denver: Coaching Trenches from Warpaint Illustrated
The closer this AFC titanic battle gets to reality, the more I like the Chiefs chances to win this first contest. Of course, should Denver lay an egg (as I suspect they will) in San Diego on Sunday that could change my line of rationale. For now, let's see how that game plays out.
Regardless of the man on the sidelines with head coach title, the Broncos are still being heralded as the class of the NFL. However like the Chiefs, they've only beaten a single team (Dallas) with a winning record and their toughest game on the schedule, a road contest at Indianapolis, they lost.
NFL: Who Will Finish Off The Season The Right Way? from The Hamilton Spectator
The undefeated team isn't the favourite here.
Unless the Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) sweep their two games with the Denver Broncos (7-1), there will be doubters about them heading right into January. The offence is a bit pedestrian, but it doesn't do dumb things and has the kind of running game that prospers in winter. The defence is the league's best, a take-away machine and intimidator.
Fangio On Alex Smith: "He Was Browbeaten By Everyone Till We Got Here" from The Santa Rosa Press Democrat
They were 1-3 and Cam Newton struggled in a loss and the stretch they have been on has tracked with some much improved play by him. Can you talk about what he's doing better? Is he just sort of growing up and making better decisions?
"I think all quarterbacks at this, what is this his third year, they just go through a natural improvement. But, I think with any quarterback and with any team, they're team has played extremely well. They have an excellent defense. It's kind of like with [former 49ers and current Kansas City Chiefs QB] Alex Smith. He was browbeaten by everybody until we got here and then all of a sudden the whole team's better, the defense is better, the team around him's better and he wins a lot games. He goes to Kansas City, he's got a really good defense with him, he's got a good team around him and he's still winning games. So, a lot of that depends upon your whole team."
Top 10 Players And Coaches Who Are Nearly Impossible To Replace from CBS Sports
Andy Reid, Chiefs coach: You can't have Payton without placing Reid on this list. Last year in Kansas City without Reid and with much of the same talent, minus the starting quarterback, the team was 2-14. This year with Reid: 9-0. What the Chiefs are doing this year is unprecedented, and Reid is a huge reason why.
Trade Bait from National Football Post
Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs: Can be had for next to nothing thanks to a 2013 stat line that reads 33-369-2. And while Kansas City's offense has yet to demonstrate an ability to go nuclear on the opposition, Bowe has one of the most favorable wide receiver schedules in the league coming up, which features five straight showdowns against teams who rank in the top-10 in most fantasy points allowed to opposing wide receivers this season (Denver twice, San Diego, Washington, Oakland).
