Bye Week Comes As A Blessing For Chiefs' Colquitt, Whose Wife Is Expecting Fifth Child from KC Star

Colquitt's successes on the field haven't come easy though. He punts three days a week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and refuses to quit until he's pleased with his performance.

"If I'm struggling in practice I punt until I get it right because I know that it is crucial in the game," Colquitt said. "If you can lock down offenses like we've been doing by our gunner play and our interior protecting and getting down and blocking we really limit what they do from an offensive standpoint."

Terez pointed this out, but Buffalo didn't show Dwayne Bowe a lot of respect in the first half. Lots of single coverage, no safety help. He caught six balls (though he dropped a big one) before halftime, and Buffalo adjusted to give him more attention. I do wonder if this is the start of defenses playing Bowe a bit differently, though, and putting even more attention on Charles.

Either way, it's good to see Bowe make a defense pay for playing him like that, and good to see Smith take advantage. One thing about that guy, if you're open, he's going to get the ball to you.

On her Tuesday flight from Xi'an to Beijing, she picked up a copy of China Daily, the nation's English-language newspaper, and "was stunned to see the back cover."

The kids took it to heart and ran through the rest of their schedule without a loss, although they tied the Raiders ("That was the coaches' fault," LaFear said). Then they'd watch the Chiefs each Sunday, pulling for their new favorite team.

The first pick in this year's draft, Fisher has started all but one game at right tackle. For much of the time, Fisher hasn't looked anything like the draft's best player. He has demonstrated superior athletic skills and those have allowed him to survive, but a pronounced lack of strength has left him vulnerable against powerful pass-rushers. The Chiefs are encouraged after Fisher played his best game of the season last week against Buffalo that perhaps his game is ready to soar. Whether or not it does during this season, Fisher remains a bright prospect. An offseason in the Chiefs' weight program should do him wonders and Fisher should come back in 2014 as a much better player.

To this point, at least, Cooper has been the Chiefs' most valuable rookie. A seventh-round pick this season of the San Francisco 49ers, he joined Kansas City off waivers at the start of the regular season and quickly showed he had the skills to play the press coverage the Chiefs want from their cornerbacks. At 6-2, Cooper has the necessary size to match up with bigger, more physical receivers. A wide receiver in college, he has showed great instincts, ball awareness and he reacts well to the ball. Cooper has been the third cornerback, coming on the field in passing situations. He will at some point become an every-down player, perhaps as soon as next season.

While it might seem obvious that the Chiefs' MVP has to come from their big-play defense, the Chiefs have too many good players on that side of the ball than to completely collapse without any specific individual.

That same claim can't be made about their plodding offense, which is being propped up by the considerable skills of just one player. If it's painful for you to imagine the Chiefs without, say Johnson or Poe, what's it like to picture the Chiefs without running back Jamaal Charles?

Only the Redskins and Raiders are below .500, while the Broncos are breathing down the Chiefs' necks for first in the AFC West.

Keeping the Broncos at bay ought to be goal No. 1 for Kansas City. With the spectacular home-field advantage the Chiefs enjoy, having the AFC playoffs roll through Arrowhead could be the difference between a really nice year and a trip to the Super Bowl.

After a successful career at Auburn, Agee entered the 1987 NFL draft and was selected in the 5th round by the Seattle Seahawks. Agee spent two years in Seattle, then signed with Kansas City Chiefs and played there one season.

Agee said, "Nothing against Kansas City or the fans, I just didn't enjoy my time there."
