Most aspects of the upcoming 2014 Pro Bowl have changed dramatically. One facet, however has not: fans voting in their favorite players.
Jamaal Charles is currently ranked third overall in fan votes for the NFL's version of an All-Star game. He is the top-ranked non-quarterback as he sits only behind Peyton Manning and Drew Brees among total votes. The top five are currently:
1. Peyton Manning (654,309 votes)
2. Drew Brees (540,036 votes)
3. Jamaal Charles (453,761 votes)
4. Calvin Johnson (449,346 votes)
5. Marshawn Lynch (443,533 votes)
Charles is currently second overall in yards from scrimmage (1,186) behind LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles (1,408). McCoy has also played one more game than Charles. Charles ranks at No. 5 in the NFL in rushing yards with 803, and he's also No. 8 in total receptions with 49.
In other awesome news, several Chiefs also lead at their respective positions.
- Branden Albert is the leading vote-getter at offensive tackle
- Jeff Allen ranks second at guard behind Denver's Zane Beadles
- Dontari Poe leads all defensive tackles
- Tamba Hali is the top outside linebacker
- Eric Berry is second among strong safeties
- Dustin Colquitt is the leading vote-getter among punters.
Pro Bowl voting will conclude on December 26, which means fans have five weeks remaining to vote for their favorite Chiefs players. This year, conferences will be disregarded as the top vote getters will all play whether they're from the NFC or AFC. In addition, players will be picked draft-style.
