I was on NBC 41 Action News yesterday morning and I mentioned that the Chiefs are playing the Chargers next week is what feels like a trap game. The Broncos re-match is two weeks away with the Chargers game squeezed in the middle. The Chiefs could be looking past them ... it just felt like a trap game.
I also said on the air that it worried me because the Chiefs have struggled against the Chargers in the past.
So then I saw this tweet below and I thought it was the definition of unbelievable. I simply can not believe it.
In the NFL Kansas City is favored over San Diego this week which is the first time since 2004 and they play twice a year, dog 16 straight.— Phil Steele (@philsteele042) November 18, 2013
I mean, can that be right? The KC Chiefs haven't been favored over the San Diego Chargers in nearly 10 freakin' years?!
Pro Football Reference tracks the Vegas lines so I went back and looked at every recent Chiefs-Chargers match-up. I show that on December 24, 2005 the Chiefs were a 1-point favorite. I'm not sure which betting service Phil Steele is using in that tweet but it's conceivable that others had the line on the 2005 game swinging the other way. In 2004 they were favored in both games.
Think about that though. The Chiefs haven't been favored over the Chargers since Dick Vermeil was coach.
Well, that is until this week. The Chiefs are actually five-point favorites in this game.
