Chiefs-Broncos game flexed to Sunday Night Football

New, comments

The highly anticipated Week 11 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos has been moved to Sunday Night Football, according to the NFL.

The KC Chiefs and Denver Broncos Week 11 game on November 17 has been flexed to Sunday Night Football. The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) on NBC at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

The Green Bay Packers and New York Giants were the original Sunday Night Football game scheduled. That game will now move into the late afternoon slot which was previously held by the Chiefs and Broncos game.

This is AWESOME news and also a bit of a surprise. It was reported several weeks ago that CBS had protected both Chiefs-Broncos games -- the one in Denver (Week 11) and the one at Arrowhead (Week 13) -- but some sort of agreement has been worked out and the game will now be on Sunday Night Football.

You can read about the rules surrounding which games can be protected here.

This means the KC Chiefs will be playing in primetime once again this season. The Chiefs only other primetime game this year came on Thursday Night Football in Andy Reid's return to Philly. But the Chiefs will be at worst 8-1 heading into the Denver game and at best a perfect 9-0.

Primetime, baby.

Here are some details on the NFL's flex scheduling:

The NFL uses "flexible scheduling" on Sundays in Weeks 11-17. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives teams a chance to play their way onto primetime and into the late-afternoon 4:25 PM ET time slot on CBS or FOX.

For each flexible scheduling week with the exception of Week 17, the NFL announces the start times of games on Sundays no later than 12 days prior to that weekend. To ensure a Sunday night game and doubleheader games with playoff implications in Week 17, flexible scheduling decisions for that Sunday can be made on six days notice.
