The KC Chiefs work free agent players out each week and usually we glance on past the names on the workout list. Unless it's a quarterback they're working out. Then we usually notice. That's the case this week as Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports the Kansas City Chiefs will work out former Chicago Bears QB Matt Blanchard.
According to the report, the workout will take place on Tuesday.
Blanchard was a 2012 undrafted free agent out of a D-III school in Wisconsin. He signed with the Bears last year after going undrafted and then joined the practice squad during the season.
He hurt his hand in the preseason this year, ending his time with the Bears with an injury settlement.
There could be a possible John Dorsey connection since Dorsey was previously in the area at Green Bay. There are also Bears connections in KC from director of player personnel Chris Ballard to special teams coach Dave Toub, both of whom were in Chicago last year.
The Chiefs currently have three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster -- Alex Smith, Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray. Honestly, it's hard to see any of those three going anywhere. That's why I am guessing if the Chiefs do decide to sign Blanchard it will be to the practice squad.
We'll see what they decide to do.
