Donnie Avery's injury is a shoulder contusion; X-rays negative on Chiefs WR

The KC Chiefs beat the Tennessee Titans on Sunday and walk out of the game with one notable injury.

As usual, the excitement of a Kansas City Chiefs win is tempered until we hear about the injuries in the game. Donnie Avery went down with a shoulder injury in Sunday's game but the early word doesn't appear to be that bad.

Following the game, Andy Reid updated reporters on Avery's status and called his injury a "shoulder contusion", which is like a shoulder bruise. "The x-rays were negative," Reid said.

We'll await further detail but I'm taking this as good news for now. It does not appear to be a serious injury.

All of a sudden, an injury to Avery is a BIG deal. He is the Chiefs leading receiver with 304 yards, topping Jamaal Charles (250) and Dwayne Bowe (183). Avery is averaging over 19 yards per reception and has three catches over 40 yards, including two in Sunday's win over the Titans.

The Chiefs receivers have been a talking point so far this season so we know they can not afford to lose one such as Avery. The Chiefs will be back at the facility today so hopefully Andy Reid has an update on how Avery is doing. From there, the Chiefs will begin practice on Wednesday, at which point we'll start to find out more about how Avery is doing. The Chiefs will issue their final injury report on Friday, which is when we will have some sort of confirmation on Avery's status.
