Chiefs-Titans final score: KC stays perfect, 26-17

The KC Chiefs survived the latest test and beat the Tennessee Titans by a final score of 26-17. KC entered the fourth quarter trailing but stayed alive thanks to several critical plays from their defense. The Chiefs are now 5-0 for the first time since 2003. It's also the first time in NFL history a team has started 5-0 after losing 14 or more games the season before. Find a recap of the game below.

Chiefs 1st drive

Alex Smith's first four passes were targeted at Chad Hall.

Branden Albert and Donald Stephenson were both flagged for pass interference.

Dexter McCluster converted a 3rd-and-15 but Donnie Avery was flagged for a pick on the play. The WRs were down the field blocking for McCluster the same way they did for Avery on those third down conversions in Philly.

Chiefs punt it away.

TURNOVER and CHIEFS TOUCHDOWN: The Chiefs punted the ball away but a Titans player inexplicably touched the ball as it went into the end zone. Chiefs CB Marcus Cooper dove on it for the touchdown. SCORE: 7-0, Chiefs.

Chiefs D steps up big and forces a 3-and-out.

Chiefs 2nd drive

The Chiefs start getting Jamaal Charles going on this drive. They have been running out of the pistol.

Chiefs punt it back to Tennessee.

The drive started at their own 9-yard line.

G Rishawn Johnson was in the game. He got beat bad by his man, pressuring Alex Smith, who dropped the ball off to Jamaal for a first down. Jamaal slipped, got back up and dove for the first on 3rd-and-11.

The Chiefs are forced to punt after failing to pick up a 3rd-and-2.

Marcus Cooper had an excellent pass break-up.

Another nice pass break-up, this time by Brandon Flowers.

Chiefs 4th drive

DEEP ball alert! Alex Smith finds Donnie Avery for a 44-yard gain. Avery came back to the ball to make the catch.

Alex Smith goes airborne and does a little helicopter as he runs to pick u pa first down.

FUMBLE: Jamaal coughs it up.

Eric Berry drops an INT on 3rd-and-long. Chiefs force a punt.

Chiefs 6th drive

Alex Smith sacked for the first time.

Titans CB Alterraun Verner dropped another potential interception.

Chiefs punt it away.

Titans 6th drive

The Titans have some nice blocking as Jackie Battle breaks off a 36-yard run.

Fitzpatrick somehow avoided a sack and found TE Delanie Walker, who ran to the Chiefs 1-yard line.

Titans had a 1st-and-goal from the 1-yard line. The Chiefs D STOPPED them on all four plays. KC forces the turnover.

Chiefs 7th drive

Drive starts from their own 1-yard line.

Alex goes DEEP to Donnie Avery for a 41-yard gain on the first play of the drive. Donnie Avery was hurt on the play.

Alex found Sean McGrath for a 24-yard gain across the middle.

Chiefs take the field goal with a few seconds left in the first half. SCORE: 13-0, Chiefs.

Ryan Fitzpatrick scrambled 26 yards for a first down.

The Chiefs sent a corner on a blitz, flushing Fitzpatrick from the pocket. He was nearly sacked before somehow dumping the ball off to Chris Johnson, who took it to the house. SCORE: 13-7, Chiefs.

Chiefs 8th drive

3-and-out gives it right back to Tennessee.

Titans 8th drive

All of a sudden, the Titans are picking up big plays from Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kendall Wright, who had 16 and 24-yard receptions. Titans drive down the field.

Sean Smith broke up two consecutive passes his way in the red zone.

Titans settle for the FG. SCORE: 13-10, Chiefs.

Chiefs 9th drive

Dwayne Bowe sighting: 11-yard reception.

TURNOVER: Alex's pass to Jamaal was high, and it landed right in Bernard Pollard's hands.

Titans 9th drive

Titans start the drive on the Chiefs 42-yard line.

On 3rd-and-8, Eric Berry gets flagged for pass interference. VERY suspect call, according to Solmon Wilcots.

Dontari Poe sacked Fitzpatrick.


Ryan Fitzpatrick runs it in on 3rd-and-9. SCORE: 17-13, Titans.

Chiefs 10th drive

KC picks up one first down before punting it away.

Dustin Colquitt shanked the punt. 9 yards.

Titans 10th drive

Chiefs force a 3-and-out. The Titans dropped a pass on 3rd-and-1.

Chiefs 11th drive

Chiefs drive started at their own 34-yard line.

The Titans are called for unnecessary roughness for hitting Alex Smith on a scramble. HUGE play because it gives the Chiefs an extra 15 yards on a 3-yard run.

Dwayne Bowe caught a pass to get the Chiefs down to the 1-yard line.

Jamaal punches it in for six. SCORE: 20-17, Chiefs.

Titans 11th drive

TURNOVER: Marcus Cooper comes up HUGE right when the Chiefs ned it as he rips the ball away for an interception. Chiefs take it back.

Chiefs 12th drive

Chiefs take the ball down to the 15-yard line and kick the field goal with 4:10 remaining. SCORE: 23-17, Chiefs.

Titans 12th drive

TURNOVER: Quintin Demps picks off Ryan Fitzpatrick's pass. Chiefs take it back with 2:39 to play and a 6-point lead.

Chiefs 13th drive:

The drive starts at the Titans 33-yard line.

Ryan Succop makes the 48-yard field goal. SCORE: 26-17, Chiefs.
