It was Sunday, maybe a half hour after the Chiefs’ 24-7 victory over the Raiders, and Demps had just gotten his third interception in as many games. Even as a backup, Demps had surpassed his career-high for picks in a season with 10 games remaining. But it wasn’t all that long ago that Demps was a failed draft pick in Philadelphia, where Chiefs coach Andy Reid picked him. Now 28, Demps admits he was immature as a rookie. Football, much like life, has a way of humbling you. "My favorite quote, which I wear (on a T-shirt) under my pads, is, ‘No struggle, no progress,’" Demps said after the game. "Adversity burdens you, but it can make you (better) sometimes."

If you prefer your history more recent, the Chiefs sacked the opposing quarterback 27 times last season. Either way, it's a long way to 2013. The Chiefs lead the league in sacks with 31 and they are on a pace to break the NFL record of 72 set by the Chicago Bears in 1984.

Yates threw a terrible pick-six after Schaub was hurt last week in a blowout loss to the Rams at home. Texans are a hot mess. Oct. 27, vs. Browns: Brandon Weeden lost his job, then got it back when his backup got hurt, and has thrown five interceptions against four touchdowns. The Browns are 3-3, and 0-3 in Weeden’s starts. Nov. 3, at Bills: The talented E.J. Manuel is hurt, and so is the journeyman Thad Lewis, so now the Bills have signed Matt Flynn — remember when he had that really good game once?

Because of their offensive inadequacies, their fate is to be vanquished to the dungeon eventually but not until they pass by the throne room to have a good look at the crown first.
