Chiefs' Reid Says Colquitt, Charles Are Fine; Flowers, Fisher Still On Mend from KC Star

Colquitt suffered a knee sprain after a Giants player got a piece of the ball during a punt-block attempt Sunday, crashing into Colquitt's leg. Despite his injury, Colquitt returned to the game, a 31-7 victory by the Chiefs. He dropped two punts inside the 20, giving him a league-high 15 on the season.

"Sometimes punter and kickers get a bad rap about toughness," Reid said, "but this kid is a tough nut."

Charles had "extensive" blisters on his feet, according to Reid, but is also OK. Charles rushed 18 times for 65 yards and also caught five passes for 62 yards against the Giants.

"The bottom of his feet were just a mess," Reid said. "But the kid, he's a tough kid. He likes to play. You appreciate that."

One of the many key players involved in the team's fourth-straight win yesterday was Chiefs TE Sean McGrath, who finished the day with five receptions, for a team-high 64 yards, and one score, his first in the NFL.

What's more, aside from a 36-yard punt return in the season opener against Jacksonville, he'd also failed to make much of an impact on special teams, even muffing a kick return attempt against Philadelphia.

Still, special teams coach Dave Toub never lost faith. He mentioned to reporters last Thursday that McCluster had been close to breaking a few big ones, something he apparently told Chiefs coach Andy Reid as well.

WR Dwayne Bowe caught four passes for 58 yards (14.5 avg.) in Sunday's contest, including a 34-yard touchdown from QB Alex Smith. It is his second receiving touchdown of the season and the 41st-receiving touchdown of his career. His 41-receiving touchdowns rank fifth in team history.

"It felt good," Bowe said of Sunday's win. "The offensive line did a great job of holding up and opening lanes so that Alex could see to hit me. You got to give credit to the New York defense. They were going man and showed us tough coverages, but we fought it out at the end and our offensive line did a great job of holding up. Jamaal [Charles] did a great job of tucking the ball and finding the holes to put us in a good position."

Fisher's injury is hard to identify. He was on the field for the Chiefs' last real drive of the first half, the one that ended in Succop's 51-yard field goal. Then, when the Chiefs got the ball back to kneel out the last few seconds of the half, Fisher had been replaced. On the second down play of the field goal drive, Fisher pulled and sort of slammed into Sean McGrath, who was in motion and coming the opposite way to block a trail defender. Fisher adjusted his facemask after that play, but, really, I'm stretching to come up with something^. And just to be sure: this isn't a comment on Fisher's toughness, at all. Head injuries are a serious issue, and besides, a lot of times the hidden or more subtle hits are more damaging than the big ones.

REID: "It's an unselfish bunch, for sure. You saw (Brandon) Flowers doing the same thing with (Marcus) Cooper, so I appreciate that part. McGrath has a good attitude about him, he works hard.
