The latest 2013 NFL mock draft from The Godfather Gil Brandt has the Kansas City Chiefs selecting Luke Joeckel, left tackle out of Texas A&M. I have my gripes with not picking a quarterback here but I can understand some of the logic behind it -- left tackles are generally close to sure-things high in the NFL Draft. So pick someone where you can assure yourself you know what you're getting.

Usually when someone sends a non-quarterback to the Chiefs in their mock draft, it's because they don't feel that a quarterback is worthy of the No. 1 pick.
That's where Brandt's mock loses me a little.
He has the Oakland Raiders selecting quarterback Geno Smith with the No. 3 overall pick. He also has the Arizona Cardinals selecting quarterback Matt Barkely out of USC with the No. 7 overall pick.
So Brandt obviously feels that a quarterback could go early in this draft -- two of them he has going in the top 10.
I just don't know why he wouldn't have the Chiefs taking one of those quarterbacks.
His board of the top 25 players -- just the best players, not a mock draft --includes no quarterbacks.
Also, a reminder that mock draft opinions are going to be all over the place this year:
Just filed my first Mock Draft of 2013. And how about this ... No quarterbacks in the first round. Will be up at NFL.com soon.
