Dave Toub leaves Bears for Chiefs, according to reports

Andy Reid announced the first wave of Kansas City Chiefs coaching hires last week and on Tuesday a report surfaced that they've added another -- Dave Toub, formerly the Chicago Bears special teams coach.

The Kansas City Chiefs appear to have their special teams coach. Per a report from Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times and Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Dave Toub is expected to join the Chiefs. Toub is coming from the Chicago Bears where he was the special teams coordinator.

It was reported last week that Toub, who was one of approximately 83 people to interview for the Bears coaching job, had interviewed with the Chiefs.

Apparently that interview went well.

This is a lateral move for Toub in that he's joining the Chiefs as special teams coordinator, the same job title he held in Chicago.

Per the Sun-Times report:

Toub interviewed for the Miami Dolphins head coaching vacancy last offseason, and he interviewed to replace Smith but was considered a longshot. Since he wasn't going to get the head coaching job, Bears general manager Phil Emery may have allowed Toub the option to make a lateral move.

It would have been awkward, to say the least, if Toub missed on the head coach job and remained as the special teams coordinator.

Toub has a very good reputation around the league. He's considered one of the top special teams coaches in the league.

The Chiefs have yet to announce or confirm anything so this is still in the "reportedly" stage.
