Chiefs' Andy Reid says any type of QB can fit in his system

The Kansas City Chiefs now have their GM, introducing John Dorsey at a Monday press conference. Step two for the new GM? Find a quarterback. Andy Reid talks about what he needs to see in that quarterback.

New Chiefs GM John Dorsey is tasked with turning around a Chiefs franchise that won just two games last year. The fastest way to get it all turned around is picking up the right quarterback. Dorsey and Andy Reid will get together in the coming weeks and months to determine what they will do that position.

Dorsey said that the quarterback he's looking for is the one that is the best fit for Andy Reid and the Chiefs offense.

So, then, Andy Reid, what type of quarterback are you looking for?

"This offense gives you everything," Reid told Kevin Kietzman on 810 WHB Monday afternoon. "It gives you your 5-step, your 3-step, your 7-step drop. It gives you play action, it gives you movement, the naked series where the quarterback is actually getting outside of the pocket and threatening the defense as literally a threat. You have the screen game and so on.

"You can basically take any type of quarterback and fit him into this offense. You're just going to utilize different parts more according to their skill level. But you have that flexibility and that's what makes it so stinkin' unique.

"When Donovan McNabb came out he could run like a deer so we utilized in all different ways. He had a huge arm, one of the stronger arms that's played in this offense. So we were able to utilize both those things well and exploit his talents.

"The common denominator is that you need someone who is smart. All the guys I've have had the aptitude -- you don't run out of gigabytes -- to hang with the offense and what it demands."

That's an interesting answer. Not many specifics but still a good answer. (Yes I am so starved for real answers from my football team that I'll take anything.)

And it's also an answer that gets us no closer to figuring out any hints about who the Chiefs plan to trot out at quarterback next season.
