With the Kansas City Chiefs backup quarterback situation you can expect us to bring up potential free agent quarterbacks from time to time. Today is one of those times with the news that the Miami Dolphins plan to cut David Garrard.
This was what many people expected once Garrard was injured several weeks ago. In that time, Ryan Tannehill won the starting job and last year's starter, Matt Moore, is the backup.
Garrad was the odd man out; he's now gone.
Back in September 2011, we asked the obligatory "Should the Chiefs sign Garrard?" question and 60 percent said yes (and the Chiefs didn't sign him, of course).
The Chiefs were reportedly one of the teams who called about him before he landed in Miami which suggests some level of interest. Garrard probably wants to latch onto a team this week so that he's on the roster Week 1 and gets his base salary fully guaranteed. If he signs after Week 1, that base salary isn't necessarily guaranteed.
I think the Chiefs would be interested in checking him out. It's a tough situation because they went through the entire offseason program and all of training camp with Brady Quinn and Ricky Stanzi. Do you add Garrard and cut one of those players? Do you keep four quarterbacks? Do you not pursue Garrard at all?
What do you think on Garrard in KC?
