The KC Chiefs made their cuts, 14 of them. There weren't any Bernard Pollard-sized surprises in there but we didn't expect that in this round of cuts. The Chiefs went from 90 to 75 players. By Friday night, they'll be getting down to 53 players. That's when you start to see some real surprises.

Six Seven thoughts on these moves are below...

Alex Tanney, Rob Bruggeman don't play on Friday night but survive the cut

Tanney will be cut. We all know that. He hasn't seen any action and barely gets any reps at practice. He's your classic fourth camp arm. But the Chiefs hung onto him for another week. He not among the 14 players cut on Sunday.

I'd expect him to be part of the 22 roster moves coming between now and Friday night, though.

Tanney and Rob Bruggeman did not enter the game on Friday but survived this round of cuts. There were six others who didn't play on Friday night and were cut today: WR Zeke Markshausen, WR Aaron Weaver, DB Jean Fanor, LB Dexter Heyman, OL Cam Holland and OL Justin Cheadle.

One fullback remaining

The Chiefs had two fullbacks on the roster -- Shane Bannon and Patrick DiMarco. Bannon was one of the 14 Chiefs cut today while DiMarco lives another day.

How are the Chiefs going to use the fullback? Will they even keep a fullback? The Chiefs next game is on Thursday night. Makes me wonder if DiMarco has a shot.

By the way, the depth chart really doesn't matter. Bannon was the No. 1 fullback.

Caleb Campbell is a mild surprise

I thought he'd make it through this first round of cuts. Campbell, Jeremy Horne and Bannon were the biggest names on the list. Caleb Campbell had a lot of talent ahead of him at inside linebacker. I'm not surprised that he was cut; just that he was in this first round of cuts.

Four receivers were cut

Aaron Weaver, Zeke Markshausen, Jeremy Horne and Brandon Kinnie:

WR Steve Breaston, Dexter McCluster, Josh Bellamy, Devon Wylie, Aaron Weaver, Zeke Markshausen

WR Jon Baldwin, Terrance Copper, Jamar Newsome, Jeremy Horne, Brandon Kinnie, Junior Hemingway, Dwayne Bowe

OK, so let's look at this. Definite keepers include Breaston, McCluster, Wylie, Baldwin and Bowe. They'll probably keep six, maybe seven receivers. Terrance Copper? Josh Bellamy? Interesting decisions ahead.

Camp kicker is gone

So long Matt Szymanski.

Teams bring in kickers for training camp and then they're cut at the end of camp. That's what happened with Szymanski. He had little to no chance to beat Ryan Succop.

Most experienced cut was Jeremy Horne

Local connection is gone

Brandon Kinnie may have a shot on the practice squad but for now he's been cut. Kinnie is from Grandview, here in the KC area.
