The final decision on the Kansas City Chiefs No. 2 quarterback job has not been made, according to Romeo Crennel. On Sunday night Crennel said that they will continue to compete in practice this week.
"I think that we have a week here to practice and get ready for this next game. We're going to go through practice and see how they do and then make a decision about who's going to be the second guy."
The common thought at this point is that this is Brady Quinn's job to lose at this point. We're still only through two preseason games and things can change but if the decision came down today it would likely be Quinn's. This week's practice will be big for Stanzi.
"It's always tough to get a true evaluation with the circumstances the way they were and with some of the protection that he had," Crennel said of Stanzi's play on Saturday night.
"It was as good as it could have been. He tried to run the offense, and maybe he wasn't as solid as he normally is, but in looking at things that he did and some of the things that he was capable of doing, he was looking at the right places, but there were times that he wasn't able to deliver the ball because somebody was in his face, and now you've pulled it down and things happen.
"That's one of the reasons we need to take another look during the course of the week and then go into this game and see what happens there."
With the preseason at the halfway point, weigh in on the the Chiefs backup quarterback competition.
