Here's your surprise of the day (or, uh, yesterday): Marcus McNeill is retiring.
The former San Diego Chargers offensive tackle was a two-time Pro Bowler and a 2006 second round pick, which means he's only been in the league for six years.

Charger for life...is that a good thing?
The reasoning behind the retirement is injuries. He was released by the Chargers due to a neck injury and had various other ailments.
There are a couple Chiefs connections here:
- The Chiefs released Jared Gaither, who then signed with San Diego, essentially as McNeill's replacement.
- The Chiefs reportedly worked McNeill out back in March, the first week of free agency.
How long ago was it that we were urging Chiefs GM Scott Pioli to call this guy up?
