A Toast To Kansas City

Kansas City will be seeing its fair share of attention over the next few days. On Tuesday night, the 83rd Major League Baseball All-Star game will be played at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals and neighbors to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Since we love Kansas City so much, we'll be pointing out over the next few days some of the articles coming out on how great the city is. (Like any good media outlet, we will ignore anything that doesn't fit our narrative of KC being a great city. Those people don't know what they're talking about anyway.)

It's not Chiefs-related but Drew Silva of the baseball website Hardball Talk has sent in a couple of dispatches on his trip to KC and both of them are worth reading. The highlights include Boulevard Wheat beers (which I love), Peanut wings (which, again, I love) and then this observation from Mr. Silva:

There are different kinds of people in every town - some who don't necessarily involve themselves in local culture - but it seems like a good majority of the folks I've encountered in my 15-or-so visits to Kansas City have possessed a well-above-average knowledge base in the art of cooking meat. Having good ingredients is crucial - and the animals are indeed raised well around here - but it's the technique that makes BBQ sing.

Thanks to Old Man Thorman loaning me his smoker, I've become quite the chef when it comes to smoking meats. Brisket, pork loin, pork butt...all kinds of stuff. If you have any good smoking tips for me, drop them in the comments section.
