Previewing the Kansas City Chiefs roster as we prepare for the 2012 training camp schedule. The wide receivers...
The wide receivers: Dwayne Bowe, Jonathan Baldwin, Steve Breaston, Josh Bellamy, Terrance Copper, Junior Hemingway, Jeremy Horne, Brandon Kinnie, Zeke Markshausen, Jamar Newsome, Aaron Weaver, Devon Wylie.
The upside here is huge but, with an upside, also comes a downside. We don't know what's up with Bowe, Baldwin is still unproven at this point and we don't know what we have in those two draft picks. Terrance Copper is a special teams wiz so he's a good bet to stick around. Devon Wylie (4th round) and Junior Hemingway (7th round) are both 2012 draft picks. Horne was on the team last year and Markshausen spent time in camp last year. Newsome was signed near the end of last year and Weaver was an offseason addition. Bellamy is an undrafted free agent, who has drawn some attention.
You can count on...Baldwin will make a bigger impact this year. He ran with the ones in the offseason and presumably he won't be missing half the regular season again like he did last year. Baldwin's the key here -- if he performs, it could create some clarity in Bowe's longterm situation. If he doesn't perform, the Chiefs have a lot of question marks with this group.
The big question...Will Dwayne Bowe show up? He told me in May that he would be here. Others have suggested he won't show up to camp. We'll find out later today if he'll report.
- Bowe has not signed his tender so he's not under contract and would not be fined for missing camp.
- Baldwin received plenty of praise in the offseason for some dazzling catches.
- Bellamy seems like the best bet of this year's UDFAs to make the team, if any of them do
- Wylie will be competing for a spot at slot
