"He's in the best shape of his life."
"He bulked up this offseason."
"He's ready to take the next step."
There are a few things you hear every offseason, including the quotes above. It seems like every player at this time of year is in the best shape of his life, getting stronger and/or ready to take the next step.
The latest example of this, which made me think of all these things you hear in the offseason, is Chargers RB Ryan Mathews.
"I personally think he's ready to take that next step," said [Norv] Turner, who added he thinks Mathews has what it takes to someday lead the league in rushing. "That means, to me, the production goes way up, and he's more of the guy that is on the field most of the time. I think he's grown a lot in terms of understanding his responsibility when the ball is in his hand."
The real news here would be if the Chargers didn't think Mathews is ready for the next step.
