Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 5/13

Good morning, and happy Mother's Day. Here is today's Kansas City Chiefs news.

In the last two years, only Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Wallace, Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd have more receiving yards. Only Johnson and Greg Jennings have more touchdowns. All of them except Fitzgerald and Lloyd have played with better quarterbacks, in better offenses.

And have you noticed what Bowe hasn't done the last two years? No suspensions, no stupid quotes, not even the hint of his success driving him to the destructive habits of his youth.

Look closely, and you see a grown man handling his business the way it should be handled.

Because the new Collective Bargaining Agreement doesn't allow contact during minicamp, first impressions of the new faces were largely of the superficial variety. First-round pick Dontari Poe, who was broken off from the group for individual workout sessions, is a mountain on two legs. Second-round pick Jeff Allen, a left tackle at the University of Illinois, appeared perfectly comfortable at left guard. And Wylie? Wind him up, watch him burn.

The Chiefs unveiled at their weekend rookie camp what could be the left side of their future offensive line. Jeff Allen, their second-round draft pick, was the left guard while Donald Stephenson, their third-round choice, was next to him at tackle.

It's not a reach to believe both players could someday be starting in those spots for the Chiefs. The incumbents, left guard Ryan Lilja and left tackle Branden Albert, are heading into the final season of their contracts.

Every year at least one team goes from last place to first place, and this year the Chiefs look to be the best bet. Of course a lot depends on Peyton Manning's health in Denver, but the AFC West looks average at best, and K.C. did win the division two years ago.

Injuries ravaged the Chiefs a year ago, and the hiring of Romeo Crennel seemed to breathe some life into the team, especially the defense. If quarterback Matt Cassel can return to form, he may have enough help around him to get back to the playoffs.
