KC Chiefs Draft Alabama CB De'Quan Menzie

New, comments

I deleted the previous post that had the incorrect pick. We had a few posts pre-written and I pub'd the wrong one.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made Alabama CB De'Quan Menzie their fifth pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Al.com has a good look at Menzie's skills:

As a senior this past season, Menzie was a full-time starter at cornerback opposite Kirkpatrick while also moving inside to play the "star" or nickel back position. He was the team leader with 11 pass break-ups and 12 passes defended. He intercepted one pass and was fifth on the Tide with 41 tackles.

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said Menzie, who grew up in Columbus, Ga., could project as a safety in the NFL because of a lack of "catch-up ability."

The Chiefs experienced their worst nightmare last year when Eric Berry went down with an injury so the Chiefs have continued their trend of adding more depth across the board. After hitting on a couple of offensive line spots, cornerback/safety makes sense.

The Chiefs remaining draft picks are No. 182 (6th round) and No. 218 and No. 238 (7th round).
