Representing the Denver Broncos, masonsixer with the 25th pick in the Arrowhead Pride mock draft...
It's time to pick for a team we all hate more than ever it seems right now -- the Denver Broncos! I don't mean to brag but, as champion of the AP NCAA bracket league, I've got a pretty good history with picks. Everyone considers the Broncos an immediate contender now that they have Peyton Manning and I think they'll be looking to draft a game changing player that they think can push them towards a Super Bowl.
The Broncos did an outstanding job improving their defense in the 2011 draft by drafting guys like Von Miller, Quinton Carter, and Rahim Moore. Although they only ranked 20th in the league last year the Broncos defense seemed to be firing on all cylinders towards the end of the season and they've got a few good young players. Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil will probably be one of the best pass rushing duos in the league next year on the outside but they were unable to pick up any inside d-linemen in last years offseason.
With Broderick Bunkley leaving in free agency the Broncos are looking especially weak inside. The Chiefs have picked up Peyton Hillis and the Chargers have picked up Leron McClain which are two players that have good ability to run the ball inside and I think the Broncos realize they will nead an inside presence to stop this.
The Broncos will use the 25th pick in the draft to get the best defensive tackle available. Enter DT Jerel Worthy from Michigan St.
At 6'3" 305 lbs Worthy has all the measurables to be a dominate 3 technique defensive tackle in the NFL. Worthy hasn't put up crazy statistics and most don't think he has played to his full potential but if the Broncos got him motivated they could have a great, versatile player that can rush the passer as well as stuff the run. If the Broncos hit on Worthy and he becomes a good pass rusher they will have one of the best pass rushing defenses in the league for years which is always a key component to a dominant defense.
