Looking At Stevie Johnson's New Deal With The Buffalo Bills

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to sign Dwayne Bowe to a longterm contract at some point so I thought it would be good to take a look at the deal Stevie Johnson just got from the Buffalo Bills. It's a five-year deal worth a reported $36.25 million. The deal includes $19.5 million guaranteed and $24 million over the first three years of the deal.

(By the way, the initial contract numbers that come out on these deals are usually leaked by the agent and they're usually a little inflated, but whatever. We'll go with what we got.)

Bowe should surpass those numbers. I don't have any inside info on the negotiations or what kinda deal they're looking for but something similar to Santonio Holmes' five-year, $45 million deal seems like a good comparison. In that deal, Holmes received $24.5 million in guarantees.

A $9 million per year average along with $20+ million in guaranteed money and the all-important three-year payout seems like a good estimation of where the two sides could be going.

I'm really interested to see A.) the length of the deal and B.) how many outs the Chiefs have in the deal and when. Well, I'm actually just really interested in getting him under contract.
