Sometimes I wonder if we're giving the Kansas City Chiefs enough credit when it comes to free agency moves this year. The Chiefs are getting a lot of high marks from others that cover the NFL. The latest one comes via Matt Williamson of ESPN (Insider), where he gives the KC Chiefs an A for their work in free agency.
The only other teams with A's -- Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills. All those two teams did was sign the No. 1 (Peyton Manning) and No. 2 (Mario Williams) free agents to massive contracts.
Williamson talks about all the Chiefs free agents signed -- WR Dwayne Bowe (franchise tag), T Eric Winston, RB Peyton Hillis, CB Stanford Routt, TE Kevin Boss, LB Jovan Belcher (re-signed) -- and even compared to the guys who didn't re-sign -- CB Brandon Carr, QB Kyle Orton, Le'Ron McClain -- the class is a net positive.
A lot of teams are said to have "won" free agency but then go onto have a miserable season (yes, still lookin' at you, 2011 Eagles). But the Chiefs moves aren't about the glitzy, high-priced players. It seems like more of a subtle way of "winning" free agency.
If I'm being too much of a homer about the Chiefs free agency, let me know. But this does seem like a really solid class.
