2012 NFL Mock Draft: Coming Up With Other Options

Didn't I tell you I would change my mind about the Kansas City Chiefs pick in our 2012 NFL mock draft? I've already changed it.

First, the KC Chiefs pick in SB Nation's latest 2012 NFL mock draft -- Memphis DT Dontari Poe:
Poe's athleticism is notable, especially for a 350-pounder, but there are questions about whether or not that will translate to him being a consistent threat in the NFL. Either way, the Chiefs can hope for the upside or, at the very least, get a very good nose tackle.
I like the idea of a guy like Romeo Crennel getting his hands on Poe, a defensive lineman. Crennel is a longtime defensive coach so I think if anyone's going to coach him up it would be Poe.

That said, I'm not totally sure if he's a guy the Chiefs would pick. GM Scott Pioli often says the most important factor in evaluating a prospect is the game tape -- can the guy play? According to multiple scouting reports -- I didn't watch much Memphis football this year -- Poe was not consistently dominant at Memphis, which is concerning. A guy picked 11th in the draft should be at least close to dominating the competition at the college level and Poe just didn't do that on a consistent basis. Size-wise, he fits the bill. But I'm just not sure the production is there.

So I'm in the middle of switching my picks for the Chiefs 11th pick. I think I'll reveal my new pick tomorrow on 610 Sports tomorrow when I talk with Danny Parkins and Carrington Harrison from 11:00-12:00.
