The cornerback market in free agency is looking worse and worse. There wasn't a ton of talent in the first place but the franchise tag is taking a couple of other key players off the market.
First, the Atlanta Falcons confirmed they've issued the franchise tag to CB Brent Grimes. That's not a surprise. It was between him and LB Curtis Lofton for the tag. Just five years ago, he was in NFL Europe. Crazy to think that an undrafted free agent picked up this year could be a franchise tag player in a handful of years.
Second, the Tennessee Titans will likely tag cornerback Cortland Finnegan, according to NFL Network. This is a big surprise. Most of the Tennessee reporters have not reported Finnegan is getting the tag. (Update: And there's a reason for that. ESPN reports Finnegan will not be tagged.)
Those two guys were among the top two cornerbacks expected to hit the market, and now at least one of them won't make it.
This is all good news for Brandon Carr, who is scheduled to be a free agent. He's becoming the top guy available. Someone is going to make him a very rich man (and few players deserve it like him, a fifth round pick from a small school).
