The Kansas City Chiefs didn't waste away the day on Saturday boozing it up for St. Patrick's Day like the rest of us. They were out signing players. On Saturday evening, the Chiefs announced the addition of RT Eric Winston and backup QB Brady Quinn.
On Monday morning, head coach Romeo Crennel and GM Scott Pioli commented on the addition of Winston.
Romeo: "We are always looking for good football players, and when Eric became available, we decided to pursue him," said Crennel. "He is a big, strong, physical player up front that will be a good addition to our offensive line."
Pioli: "We are very happy to add a quality right tackle like Eric to our team," said Pioli. "He is a smart lineman who is going to bring passion, intelligence and toughness to our offense."
He's been one of the top right tackles on one of the top offensive lines. The Chiefs had a huge hole at right tackle. The fit makes perfect sense.
Winston will also be a day one starter. The Chiefs usually like to use free agency as a way to plug holes until their draft picks can develop but this was an opportunity that gave the Chiefs a new right tackle for the next four years.
